Ruth works actively with The Noah’s Ark Trust charity that provide free support for young people, children and their families after the death of a mum, dad or someone close.

Every hour a child is bereaved in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The loss of a parent or loved one can be devastating. Deaths can be caused by suicide, road traffic accidents, heart failure, brain tumors, cancer and drug and/or alcohol abuse. For a child, bereavement can
seem impossible to cope with and facing the future can seem hopeless. It can lead to lifelong problems.

The support of Noah’s Ark at this time can be vital.

In 2007 Noah’s Ark Trust helped 329 of these children and in 2008 we were able to help 502.

The goal for 2009 is to help 700… along with their families.

In total there will be around 11,500 deaths resulting in bereaved children in the two counties. We rely on your help to support more families through the most difficult of times.

Compton Hospice

Ruth is an Ambassador for Compton Hospice which has been providing the best in palliative care to patients facing a life-limiting illness, and their families, for more than a quarter of a
century. Our purpose is to make a difference to people’s life’s when their illness is no longer curable, adding life to years rather than years to life.

We do this by treating people, not just their conditions, through our in-patient and community care facilities, medical and holistic treatments and support services. Our philosophy is to support our patients emotionally, psychologically and spiritually as well as easing their physical symptoms to help them live fulfilling lives at home for as long as possible.

Our services are available free of charge to a catchment area of 1.3 million people from communities across Wolverhampton and the West Midlands. It takes more than 5 million each year to maintain the services we offer and we appreciate any help from individuals, community groups or companies in reaching this target.

For further information on fundraising or making a donation, please call 0845 2255 497 or visit our website at

Ruth works closely with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), which is the United Kingdom’s leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children.

The “Don’t Hide It” campaign encourages 11-16 year olds to speak out about sexual abuse. Many children and young people who have been abused hide from friends and family. They put on a brave face but they need someone to turn to. The NSPCC’s services are there for children and young people to contact when they are ready to talk about their experience and to seek help to overcome the abuse they have suffered.

To find out how you can join Ruth’s network and support the NSPCC’s work, please call the Midlands Fundraising Office on 01922 459013 and ask for Deborah Chandos-Hall.

Children and young people can call confidentially on 0800 1111 or visit http://www.donthideit.com.
